Peace, to have meaning for many who have only known suffering in both peace and war, must be translated into bread or rice, shelter, health and education, as well as freedom and human dignity. – Ralph Bunche
The 20th Century has been called the most violent in human history, and the 21st seems destined to rival, if not surpass, it. The Hatherleigh Foundation recognizes that true peace is a practice, a way of acting that must be worked at, on a minute-by-minute basis, via communication, understanding and faith. It also recognizes that non-violent conflict resolution and global awareness are essential elements of any program for peace. Peace begins with individual relationships and mutual trust.
The Hatherleigh Foundation encourages grant applications which seek to foster global awareness and the practice of peace via foreign educational opportunities (study and research abroad); overseas mentoring programs; and multinational and cross-cultural retreats and conferences.
