Give a man health and a course to steer, and he’ll never stop to trouble about whether he’s happy or not. – George Bernard Shaw
The physical and psychological benefits of exercise and a healthful diet are widely recognized, but too few of us actually put the simple principles of wellness into practice.
One of the core goals of The Hatherleigh Foundation is to address that gap. Through its ongoing programs and funded initiatives, The Hatherleigh Foundation promotes the implementation of health-consciousness. This includes the support of exercise initiatives that address our varied population’s specific needs (children, diabetics, disabled veterans, the elderly, the chronically overweight) through education and community recreation activities.
The Hatherleigh Foundation also promotes programs addressing proper nutrition in our schools, workplaces and homes. Such programs include improving access to fresh foods via farmer’s markets and sustainable farming methods and support of food pantries to address food insecure populations.
Additionally, The Hatherleigh Foundation stresses the vital importance of wellness and preventive medicine. While much is known about the individual and social benefits of preventive care, too little funding is earmarked for initiatives that prioritize it. The Hatherleigh Foundation advocates fitness programs, regularly scheduled physical examinations and health screenings, as well as educational events aimed at disseminating information about health care and health care issues to the general public.
